The University of Southern Mississippi and the Technological University of Panama Wednesday (Aug. 11) signed a memorandum of understanding between the two institutions, opening the doors for enhanced collaboration on new academic and economic development opportunities.

“This trip is all about building relationships with one of the most dynamic countries in the Western Hemisphere,” stated Dr. Martha Saunders, president of The University of Southern Mississippi. “Partnerships developed here can mean a lot to Mississippi.”

The Sertoma Club of Hattiesburg made its largest philanthropic contribution to date by presenting the DuBard School for Language Disorders with a check for $18,000 on Thursday, Aug. 12.

Football season is right around the corner at The University of Southern Mississippi and The Pride of Mississippi Marching Band is ready to bring game day spirit to Golden Eagles fans.

A Preview Concert will be presented on the Hattiesburg campus at 7 p.m. Friday, Aug. 20 to give audiences a sneak peek at this season’s line-up. The past month has produced impressive accolades for University of Southern Mississippi accounting professor Michael Dugan.

Dugan, who joined the Southern Miss faculty in June, received the 2010 “Best Paper” Award for his co-authored article that appeared in the December 2009 issue of the American Accounting Association (AAA) journal Accounting Horizons. On top of that, Dugan recently learned that he is ranked among the top five percent of the most prolific accounting researchers over the past 50 years.
