Noted author and educator Dr. Jinx Coleman Broussard credits a passion for communication as the key ingredient to a successful career that led to her induction into The University of Southern Mississippi School of Mass Communication and Journalism (MCJ) Hall of Fame.


Fans who want to leave a get-well message for three University of Southern Mississippi students injured in a recent off-campus shooting incident can do so Saturday from 4:30 – 6:30 p.m. at the Barnes and Noble bookstore on the Hattiesburg campus before the Southern Miss – Houston game.


Researchers at The University of Southern Mississippi have been awarded an $80,000 grant to study the psychosocial impact of the Deepwater Horizon oil spill disaster on Mississippi Gulf Coast residents.


Jessica Harris gazed up from her wheelchair barely able to contain the emotions pouring from a heart that desperately needs replacing.

“I just can’t believe that all of this is for me. It makes me feel very special,” said Harris, 17, the guest of honor at a birthday party/fundraiser sponsored by the Southern Miss Civitan Club on Wednesday, Nov. 17 at the university Union building.


Members of The University of Southern Mississippi’s custodial staff are heeding the call of the United Way to Live United.

The Southern Miss employees recently joined to designate their donation, totaling nearly $200, to the university’s United Way Campaign in support of the Shafer Center for Crisis Intervention.


The University of Southern Mississippi will close its 2010 Centennial Celebration with performances by the Southern Miss Gulf Coast Civic Chorale. Having performed earlier in the year to welcome the centennial, the chorale will now commemorate the special occasion with “Holiday Celebration – A Centennial Celebration.”
