University of Southern Mississippi French instructor Keltoum Rowland will be recognized as the Honorary Consul of France to the state Thursday, Sept. 29 at 3 p.m. at a special ceremony in the Thad Cochran Center, where her first duty in her new role will be to honor four World War II veterans.


Funeral services are set for Friday, Sept. 23 at 10 a.m. at Hulett-Winstead Funeral Home in Hattiesburg for Dr. Herschel Q. Peddicord, Jr., a retired associate professor in the Department of Curriculum and Instruction at The University of Southern Mississippi, who died Sept. 18 at Forrest General Hospital. He was 84.


An Alabama resident retired from management in the private sector has transformed a hobby into a trade that has customers and students from across the country seeking his products and instruction in the area of metal shaping.  



Making schools and their surrounding communities safer will be the focal point of an important conference titled, “Building Resistance and Resiliency to Violence, Defiant Groups and Bullying Symposium” set for Oct. 4-5 at the Lake Terrace Convention Center in Hattiesburg, Miss.


Mississippi Home of Your Own (HOYO) will sponsor a free, one-day homebuyer education workshop on Saturday, Oct. 8 for residents with and without disabilities in Hinds and surrounding counties.


The University of Southern Mississippi’s College of Health recently began a public relations campaign with the goal of increasing visibility and understanding of the programs and courses offered. 


Referred to as the “College of Health Top 20,” the campaign aims to inform students, faculty, staff, and alumni of the top reasons to become part of the College of Health.
