Three faculty members in The University of Southern Mississippi School of Mass Communication and Journalism will discuss and sign their new book, “Race and News:  Critical Perspectives,” in Room 103 of the Trent Lott Center at 6 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 2. The event is free and open to the public.


Archaeology students and faculty from The University of Southern Mississippi will participate in a public excavation Saturday, Oct. 29 on the Gulf Coast at the Delisle Site in Delisle, Miss., which included occupations during the Colonial and prehistoric periods.


The University of Southern Mississippi Activities Council (SMAC) will present its annual Halloween Carnival Friday, Oct. 28 from 4-6 p.m. on Weathersby Lawn, located near the center of the Hattiesburg campus next to The Hub. It is free and open to all area children.


Air Force ROTC cadets at The University of Southern Mississippi will perform their annual 24-hour vigil at the Hattiesburg Veterans Memorial Park from 10 a.m., Nov. 10 through 10 a.m. Nov. 11 as part of Veterans Day festivities.


The University of Southern Mississippi Alumni Association inducted seven of the university’s most dedicated and distinguished volunteers into its Hall of Fame on Friday, Oct. 21 as one of the highlights of the 2011 homecoming celebration.


Artifacts from the World Trade Center’s twin towers, destroyed in the Sept. 11, 2001 terrorist attacks, are now on display at The University of Southern Mississippi’s Cook Library Art Gallery.


A University of Southern Mississippi professor played a key role in a soon to be released six-part documentary about the Vietnam War from the History Channel, which includes the story of a Hattiesburg military veteran’s role in the controversial, age-defining Southeast Asia conflict.  


Langan Engineering and Environmental Services, a partner with the National Center for Spectator Sports Safety and Security (NCS4) at The University of Southern Mississippi, will conduct an analysis of game day vehicle and pedestrian traffic Saturday from 3-7 p.m. in conjunction with the Golden Eagles’ Homecoming matchup with Southern Methodist University.
