Dr. Frances A. Karnes, distinguished university professor at The University of Southern Mississippi, and Dr. Kristin R. Stephens, assistant professor at Duke University, have co-edited another book in the Practical Strategies Series in Gifted Education published by Prufrock Press.

Two University of Southern Mississippi professors are culling through history’s classified section to gain insight into the world of slavery with the support of a $25,000 grant from the National Park Service (NPS).

 

Dr. Douglas Chambers and Dr. Max Grivno, faculty members in the Southern Miss Department of History, are launching a collaborative research project that will  document advertisements in Mississippi newspapers from 1790-1860 placed by masters seeking the capture and return of runaway slaves.

The Bay St. Louis chapter of the Coastal Conservation Association (CCA) will present a check for $2,500 to The University of Southern Mississippi’s Gulf Coast Research Laboratory (GCRL) on Saturday, May 5 at the Garfield Ladner Memorial Pier in Waveland.

Jim Franks first came to The University of Southern Mississippi’s Gulf Coast Research Laboratory (GCRL) in the summer of 1963 to participate in an undergraduate marine ichthyology course.  Some 50 years later, Franks has become one of the most recognized and recognizable scientists at GCRL.

All sessions will be held at the Technology Learning Center on The University of Southern Mississippi Gulf Park campus at 730 East Beach Boulevard in Long Beach.
