The University of Southern Mississippi Gulf Coast presented the 2012 Outstanding Staff Awards to three staff members for the integral role they play in providing support to the university on the Gulf Coast.


Critically acclaimed as "a passionate pianist and scholar," Svetlana Belsky is an in-demand recitalist and chamber pianist, noted for her remarkable rapport with audiences and stylistic versatility. This gifted artist comes to Hattiesburg as part of The University of Southern Mississippi School of Music’s Guest Artist Series Sunday, Nov. 4 at 2 p.m. in Marsh Auditorium. The concert is free of charge.


The 2012 inductees into The University of Southern Mississippi’s School of Mass Communication and Journalism Hall of Fame include four of the institution’s most prominent alumnae, including an interactive journalism pioneer, an Emmy-winning television executive, a popular New Orleans television news anchor and a former Southern Miss president.       


Several University of Southern Mississippi faculty members will take the stage with the Southern Miss Symphony Orchestra to perform an exciting program of classical and classical-style pieces at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday, Nov. 1 in Bennett Auditorium.


Dr. Mary Frances Nettles, director of the National Food Service Management Institute at The University of Southern Mississippi, has been awarded Kansas State University’s 2012 College of Human Ecology Distinguished Research Award.


A debate between The University of Southern Mississippi Debate Society and the British National Debate Team will be held Monday, Nov. 5 at 6 p.m. in the Thad Cochran Center on the Hattiesburg campus. The event, sponsored by the Department of Communication Studies in the College of Arts and Letters,is free and open to the public.
