A University of Southern Mississippi geography professor’s research on an underwater Gulf Coast forest that may date back around 80,000 years could yield important clues about the region’s climate and habitat.


One definition of the word amazing is “surprisingly great.” That is a perfect way to describe Racheal Barnes . . . surprisingly great. 


On May 27, Barnes walked away with a title befitting that description when she was named Miss Amazing for the State of Mississippi at the Petal Community Center. She won the Miss category that recognizes young adults ages 24 – 27.


The University of Southern Mississippi’s chapter of the Association of Office Professionals (AOP) held its installation of officers for 2013-2014 during a ceremony/luncheon July 9 at the R.C. Cook University Union Hall of Honors.


Approximately 40 vendors participated in the Minority Business Expo Tuesday, July 9 on the Hattiesburg campus of The University of Southern Mississippi, part of an initiative of the Board of Trustees of State Institutions of Higher Learning known as the Mississippi Public University Minority Economic Opportunity Initiative.
