Dr. Shahdad Naghshpour, professor of international development at The University of Southern Mississippi Gulf Park campus, recently authored the paper, “Exchange Rate Volatility and Imports Demand for the Islamic Republic of Iran,” which will be published by Inderscience Publishers.


The University of Southern Mississippi is celebrating the birthday of Charles Darwin with its first “Darwin Day” Feb. 14 on the Hattiesburg campus. 


The event features exhibits, morning spotlight talks by a group of diverse Southern Miss students and professors and afternoon events featuring a Darwin Quiz and teaching workshop. 


Two members of The University of Southern Mississippi Forensics Society recently competed at the Worlds Universities Debating Championship in Chennai, India. Seniors Brandon Hersey and Michael Sims, along with coach Frankie Glennis-Watts, left for India on Christmas day and spent over a week in the city of Chennai, India.


More than 100 high school students participated in a hands-on business symposium hosted by The University of Southern Mississippi’s Center for Economic and Entrepreneurship Education (CEEE) on Tuesday, Feb. 4.


The University of Southern Mississippi Department of Biological Sciences will host three Night at the Museum overnight outreach activities this spring. These unique adventures at the popular science museum are “overnight retreats” for students in grades 4-8.


To commemorate and educate about the history of civil rights in America, The University of Southern Mississippi Gulf Park campus will host “Created Equal: America’s Civil Rights Struggle,” which will feature three different discussions and their accompanying documentary films. Each discussion will be held from 11:45 a.m. – 12:45 p.m. and follow with the film at 6 p.m.


The University of Southern Mississippi Libraries will host a talk about its de Grummond Children’s Literature Collection on Tuesday Feb. 4 at 5:30 p.m. in the Cook Library Art Gallery, located next to Starbucks.
