Thirteen graduates of the Joint International Hydrographic Applied Science Program (JIHASP) at The University of Southern Mississippi will be recognized during a special ceremony set for Thursday, July 31 at the Stennis Space Center campus in Hancock County, Miss.


Workers continue in the final stage of construction on two of three new buildings within the Century Park South residential complex at The University of Southern Mississippi Hattiesburg campus on Wednesday, July 23. Both residence halls will open at the start of the fall 2014 semester, offering 450 beds for students. University of Southern Mississippi graduate Kristin Howard has been chosen to participate in the 2014 Leadership Academy class which honors rising stars in the accounting profession.



In response to student interest as well as meeting industry needs, the Department of Human Capital Development at The University of Southern Mississippi Gulf Park campus has updated its master’s degree program with the new name of Master of Science degree in human capital development.



The National Center for Spectator Sports Safety and Security (NCS4) at The University of Southern Mississippi awarded the Certified Sport Security Professional (CSSP) certification to some of the top professsionals in the industry during the 2014 National Sports Safety and Security and Exhibition July 8-10 in Indianapolis. It is the nation’s first professional security credential designed for those responsible for the planning and overall security operations of sport venues and events.


Dr. Robin Overstreet, professor emeritus in the Department of Coastal Sciences at The University of Southern Mississippi, will receive the Eminent Parasitologist Lectureship Award at the American Society of Parasitologists (ASP) Conference set for July 24-27 in New Orleans.


Mississippi Home of Your Own (HOYO) will sponsor a free, one-day homebuyer education workshop Saturday, Aug. 2, for residents with and without disabilities in Clay and surrounding counties.


The American Red Cross South Mississippi Chapter will honor four Pine Belt-area veterans for their service to country and community at the second annual Stars and Stripes: Salute to the Military on Thursday, July 24, from 6-10 p.m. at The University of Southern Mississippi Thad Cochran Center Ballroom on the Hattiesburg campus.
