The Student Government Association at The University of Southern Mississippi is sponsoring the 11th Annual Eaglepalooza on Saturday, Oct. 25 in downtown Hattiesburg, Miss.

The Saturday Gifted Studies Program will be held Jan. 17 – Feb. 28, 2015 on the Hattiesburg campus of the University of Southern Mississippi. The program meets on seven consecutive Saturdays from 9 a.m. – noon from the middle of January through February.

The 16th annual Shell Finish Line/Alumni Homecoming Golf Tournament will be held at Hattiesburg Country Club, the official country club of the Southern Miss Alumni Association, Friday, Nov. 7. The tournament will kick off with a shotgun start at 8:30 a.m. in conjunction with The University of Southern Mississippi’s Homecoming festivities.

Dr. Philip C. Kolin, University Distinguished Professor in the College of Arts and Letters at The University of Southern Mississippi, has published his seventh collection of poems entitled Departures. It was released in early October by Negative Capability Press, which has published award-winning poetry books since 1981.

The University of Southern Mississippi’s Gulf Park Campus in Long Beach will open two new facilities along Beach Park Place later this month. The new Fitness Center and the Health Center will open the week of Oct. 20, providing students, faculty and staff access to on-campus exercise space and a variety of health services.

Students, faculty and staff at The University of Southern Mississippi have until Nov. 7 to complete an annual dining services survey sponsored by Eagle Dining that could lead to significant prizes.

The University of Southern Mississippi is celebrating student writing during a month-long exhibition known as Eagles Write! and a public reading, an event that coincides with the National Day on Writing. The Department of English will host the reception and reading, which will take place Oct. 20 at 4 p.m. in the Polymer Science Auditorium on the Hattiesburg campus.

In celebration of the National Council of English’s National Day on Writing Oct. 20 the Department of English, in conjunction with the Live Oak Writing Project at The University of Southern Mississippi will host “Gulf Coast Compose,” a series of write-ins on the Southern Miss Gulf Park campus.
