The DuBard School for Language Disorders at The University of Southern Mississippi recently received a gift of $20,000 from the Sertoma Club of Hattiesburg.

 

A check presentation and small gathering was held at the school on Thursday, Oct. 9 with representatives of the Sertoma Club of Hattiesburg joining DuBard School staff and students.

Dr. Andrew Wiest, professor of history and founding director of The University of Southern Mississippi’s Center for the Study of War and Society, will be the guest speaker for the Tuesday, Oct. 14 University Forum on the Hattiesburg campus. This free program will be held in the Thad Cochran Center, ballroom III at 6:30 p.m. and is open to the public.

The University of Southern Mississippi Center for Logistics, Trade and Transportation (CLTT) has received a grant from the United State Department of Transportation Research and Innovative Technology Administration to develop tools and techniques to assess the impact of potential reshoring on transportation infrastructure.

James Wilcox, director for the Center of Economic and Entrepreneurship Education (CEEE) at The University of Southern Mississippi, received the Rising Star Award at the 53rd Annual Financial Literacy and Economic Education Conference Awards dinner earlier this month in Dallas, Texas.

The University of Southern Mississippi Department of Educational Studies and Research presents its Emergent Scholar Lecture Series, featuring Dr. Mariann Taylor on Tuesday, Oct. 14, from 5:15-6:15 p.m. in Gonzales Auditorium in the Liberal Arts Building. Faculty, administration, staff and students are encouraged to attend.

Chiquita Thomas, a student in the School of Human Performance and Recreation, College of Health at The University of Southern Mississippi was selected to participate in The Southern District Future Professional Leadership Conference (FPLC), hosted by the Society of Health and Physical Educators (SHAPE) America. Thomas was one of two students selected to represent the state of Mississippi at the conference held at Eastern Tennessee State University, Sept. 25-27.

The Department of Economic Development and Tourism within the College of Business at The University of Southern Mississippi has received a federal grant to study the impact of the increased use of hydraulic fracturing (fracking) on freight transportation distribution patterns.

The University of Southern Mississippi has indefinitely suspended the Delta Mu Chapter of Pi Kappa Alpha Fraternity (PIKE) at the school, following the arrest of one of its pledges.
