Concerns about textbook costs are on the rise among college students nationwide. Each semester begins with finding which textbooks are required, price-comparison, and the daunting decision of whether to rent or buy.

More than eight million students participate in interscholastic athletics sports and after-school programs each year, and 336 million spectators attend these events. When a school-based emergency or incident occurs, often it is the school personnel who are first to arrive on the scene.

In order to make sure these personnel are prepared for safety and security issues, superintendents, principals, athletic administrators, local law enforcement agents and school resource officers from across the country will converge on The University of Southern Mississippi’s Gulf Park Long Beach campus April 13-15 for the National Interscholastic Athletics and After-School Activities Safety and Security Summit, hosted by the National Center for Spectator Sports Safety and Security (NCS4).

DuBard School for Language Disorders at The University of Southern Mississippi is hosting two educational sessions for educators, parents and administrators this month including Conscious Discipline on Feb. 18 and Missing Links in Academics on Feb. 23-24.

Jay Hopson, who served as an assistant coach at The University of Southern Mississippi on two previous occasions, will be introduced as the Golden Eagles' new head football coach during an official news conference set for 1 p.m. today at the Trent Lott Center. The event is open to the public and a reception welcoming the new coach is set to follow.
