The University of Southern Mississippi Percussion Ensemble will perform with special guest artist Horacio “El Negro” Hernandez at 8 p.m., on Monday, April 4 in the Mannoni Performing Arts Center. Tickets are $10 for General Admission, $5 for student-age, and free for students with an I.D.

The Gulf Coast community can expect to see many helping hands Saturday, April 2, as students from The University of Southern Mississippi Gulf Park Campus prepare to partake in an annual day of community service called The Big Event 2016.

World renowned flutists Sir James and Lady Jeanne Galway offered special instruction to a master class of students at The University of Southern Mississippi on Tuesday, March 30. The Galways return for their third performance with the Southern Miss Symphony Orchestra as part of a special concert, set for 7:30 p.m. on Thursday, March 31 in Bennett Auditorium on the Hattiesburg campus.

The research and service of University of Southern Mississippi graduate students was celebrated at the 2016 Dr. Susan A. Siltanen Graduate Student Research Symposium March 24 on the Hattiesburg campus. The event, held at the Thad Cochran Center, was presented by the Southern Miss Graduate School and the Graduate Student Senate.

Students in the School of Social Work at The University of Southern Mississippi presented and won awards at the Mississippi chapter of the National Association of Social Workers conference, held March 23- 25 at the Golden Nugget Casino Hotel in Biloxi.

University of Southern Mississippi College of Education and Psychology Assistant Professor Dr. Ann E. Blankenship and University of Georgia College of Education Professor Elizabeth DeBary have published Volume 3 of the Education Law & Policy Review, serving as Guest Co-Editors-in-Chief for the special double issue.

The University of Southern Mississippi Symphony Orchestra concert on March 31 headlined by two of the world’s premier flutists, Sir James and Lady Jeanne Galway, will also feature three acting students from the Department of Theatre. They will join the orchestra on the first half of the concert by reading lines from Shakespeare’s Romeo and Juliet.

An open house will be held Tuesday, April 5 at 4:30 p.m. for The University of Southern Mississippi’s Frances A. Karnes Center for Gifted Studies in room 133 of the J.B. George Building on the Hattiesburg campus. The J.B. George Building is located south of Reed Green Coliseum on Kay James Drive.

Faculty from the College of Arts and Letters at The University of Southern Mississippi were recently nominated for recognition by the Mississippi Institute of Arts and Letters (MIAL) for their artistic accomplishments in 2015. Winners will be announced at the 37th annual MIAL Awards Banquet on Saturday, June 11 at the Mississippi Museum of Art in Jackson.
