Several University of Southern Mississippi staff members were honored for their work at the College Public Relations Association of Mississippi (CPRAM) 2016 Conference held May 22-24 in Ocean Springs, Miss. The CPRAM awards recognizes exceptional work by communications, marketing and public relations professionals at colleges and universities across the state of Mississippi.

Hosting the Conference USA Baseball Tournament results in thousands of dollars for local and state coffers, according to the research of a recent University of Southern Mississippi graduate.

 

Kyle Stoner of Gulfport, Miss. conducted his honors thesis on the topic, titled “The Economic Impact of the 2015 Conference USA Baseball Tournament in Hattiesburg, Mississippi.” Stoner’s research, using EMSI (Economic Modeling Specialists Inc.) modeling found that visitors who attended the tournament spent approximately $2.7 million in the Hattiesburg area during their stay

Drawings by James Meade, professor of drawing & painting and foundations at The University of Southern Mississippi, are currently on display in the Cook Library Art Gallery. Pieces from the exhibit The Fire and the Flood, previously shown at the Lauren Rogers Museum in Laurel, will be on display through July.

In an ongoing effort to promote academic excellence for its students, faculty and staff, The University of Southern Mississippi celebrated the groundbreaking for the future Gulf Park Business and Health Building, Monday, May 23, on the University’s Gulf Park campus in Long Beach.

 

The new project will provide for a two-story, 25,000-square-foot academic facility that will house the University’s Gulf Park operations for the colleges of Business and Health.

The University of Southern Mississippi Police Department (UPD) requests the public’s assistance in locating Floyd Keyes, 50, of Hattiesburg in connection with a burglary that occurred May 14 at the Eagle Dining facility in the University’s Thad Cochran Center.
