An ongoing relationship with a Pine Belt media company has allowed journalism students at The University of Southern Mississippi to apply the skills they’ve learned in the classroom online and in print for one of its weekly newspapers.

College of Business students at The University of Southern Mississippi received special training in safety and security measures during a visit by Landmark Event Services. The students were trained in various security measures such as fire safety, crowd control, and bag check and were also taken through an official screening process for new workers.

As The University of Southern Mississippi’s cast of Andrew Lloyd Webber’s mega-hit musical The Phantom of the Opera rehearses for their upcoming opening, they will be guided by a Broadway vet who spent nearly four years playing Christine on Broadway. Jennifer Hope Wills will be in Hattiesburg for several days this week working with the cast and primarily with students portraying the Phantom and Christine.

The DuBard School for Language Disorders at The University of Southern Mississippi will present three awards at the annual Speakeasy event on October 6, 2017. Honorees include: Mississippi Southern District Transportation Commissioner Tom King, Southern Miss Head Baseball Coach Scott Berry, and long-time DuBard School supporter and advisory board member William H. (Bill) Pace.

The College of Business at The University of Southern Mississippi has partnered with clothing retailers Talbots and Jos. A. Bank on a new initiative called the Eagle Suit Fund. The fund is sponsored by a generous alumnus of the University.

A special event celebrating the legacy of pianist and teacher George Imbragulio (1923-2015) will take place on Sunday, October 1, 2017, at 3 p.m. in Marsh Auditorium on The University of Southern Mississippi’s Hattiesburg campus.

Each day in high schools and middle schools throughout Mississippi, students are asked to research, investigate and learn about numerous historical and civic topics. From geography, government, economics, to state, national and world history, students face a mountain of social studies content to master in grades six through 12. Luckily, many of these classes are led by teachers trained in a program nationally recognized for its excellence in preparing social studies educators.

The Alpha Omicron chapter of Phi Mu sorority at The University of Southern Mississippi will host its annual fall festival, BonnaMU, on Saturday, Sept. 23 from 2-5 p.m. at Spirit Park on the Hattiesburg campus. The event is a fundraiser for Batson Children’s Hospital in Jackson, Miss.
