Black History Month 2019 will be observed throughout February at The University of Southern Mississippi (USM) Gulf Park Campus in Long Beach, recognizing the legacy of African-American achievements in our national history and culture.

“Spy Games: War and Espionage in the 20th Century” is the theme for the 14th annual Dale Center for the Study of War and Society’s Richard McCarthy Lecture Series, featuring a presentation by Dr. Jeremy Black Tuesday, Jan. 29 entitled “The World of James Bond: The Life and Times of 007.” This free event will be held at 6 p.m. in the Liberal Arts Building, room 108 on the Hattiesburg campus.

On Saturday, Feb. 23, University of Southern Mississippi alumni across the Southeast are invited to participate in community service as part of the Southern Miss Alumni Association’s Doing GOLD Work initiative.

University of Southern Mississippi (USM) History Professor Dr. Andrew Haley will discuss his research into the world of Mississippi community cookbooks Jan. 30 when he presents “Cookbooks for a Cause” from 6-8 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 30 at the Hattiesburg Public Library. An admission charge of $10 reserves a seat for the program and supports Extra Table, a charitable initiative that provides resources for food banks in the Pine Belt.
