University of Southern Mississippi students, faculty, staff, alumni and other supporters will be kicking off homecoming week with an assortment of activities and events to show their Golden Eagle pride with this year’s homecoming theme "Let the Good Times Soar!"
Homecoming day is Saturday, Oct. 20 when the Southern Miss football team faces Conference USA East Division opponent Marshall University at 6 p.m. The campus will be host to a variety of activities, including college and department reunions, tailgating and recognition of prominent alumni, among many others. Throughout the week, students can be found decorating floats near the front entrance of the Hattiesburg campus.
Highlights of Homecoming 2012 week include:
*The 2012 Homecoming Golf Tournament will be held Oct. 19 at 8:30 a.m. at the Hattiesburg Country Club.
*The Football Friday Luncheon Oct. 19 is open to the public. Join Head Football Coach Ellis Johnson for a pre-game lunch at the Trent Lott Center at 11:30 a.m.
*The Southern Miss Hall of Fame Banquet and Induction Ceremony will be held Oct. 19 at 6:30 p.m. in the Thad Cochran Center.
*Friday Night at the Fountain will be Oct. 19 at 7 p.m. on the Centennial Green. Following the concert, there will be a pep rally at 9 p.m.
*The Exercise Physiology Club puts on their 17th Annual Homecoming Eagle 5k Run Oct. 20 at 8 a.m.
*The 2012 Homecoming Parade begins Oct. 20 at 10 a.m. in downtown Hattiesburg. Lineup is at the parking lot behind Sacred Heart High School on West Pine Street.
*Eagle Walk begins on West Memorial Drive at 4 p.m. prior to the game.
*The 2012 Southern Miss Homecoming game starts at 6 p.m. when the Golden Eagles face the Marshall Thundering Herd at the M.M. Roberts Stadium. The homecoming court, Mr. and Miss Southern Miss and new inductees into the Alumni Hall of Fame will be introduced at the game.
