Blankenship Earns Lucas Endowment for Faculty Excellence Award

Dr. Ann Blankenship, an assistant professor of educational administration at The University of Southern Mississippi, has been chosen to receive the Aubrey Keith Lucas and Ella Ginn Lucas Endowment for Faculty Excellence award for the 2017-2018 academic year.

The award supports and rewards faculty excellence in instruction and research. It can be used for travel, laboratory expenses, wages, books, audiovisuals, or other sources. Proposals for the endowment award can involve topics as related to instruction and/or research. Blankenship will be recognized as a recipient of the award at the university’s Faculty Awards Ceremony May 5.

Dr. Blankenship received her Juris Doctorate from the University of Tennessee’s College of Law in 2004, where she served as managing editor of the Tennessee Law Review and worked in the school’s trial advocacy clinic.  For nearly four years, Dr. Blankenship was a practicing attorney in Tennessee and Georgia, specializing in civil litigation. 

In 2013, she received her Ph.D. in Educational Administration and Policy from the University of Georgia. Her research interests include education law, personnel issues in education, and equality of educational opportunity. Dr. Blankenship has presented research based on these themes at national conferences (AERA and ELA).

A faculty member in USM’s Department of Educational Research and Administration, Dr. Blankenship currently serves as associate editor-in-chief for the Education Law and Policy Review.
