College of Business Lecture Series Features Real Estate Professional Cumbest

As part of an ongoing commitment to student engagement and success, The University of Southern Mississippi’s College of Business hosted its third Executives On: lecture series event in Scianna Hall on March 2. The presenter was Real Estate professional and Vice Chair of the Mississippi Real Estate Commission Mark Cumbest of Cumbest Realty.

Cumbest, a 1975 Southern Miss alum, has spent more than 40 years in the Real Estate profession and held numerous local, state and national positions in real estate organizations. Among the many awards and recognition he has received are as follows:1997 Mississippi Realtor of the Year, and a 1999 inductee into the Mississippi Realtor Hall of Fame.

In 2002 he was among the first selected as one of the Top South Mississippi Community Leaders and inducted in to the Roland Weeks Leadership Hall of Fame. In 2005 he was inducted into Who's Who in Mississippi Business by the Mississippi Business Journal. In 2005 he served on the Governor’s Commission on Recovery Rebuilding and Renewal and since 2007 has served on the Mississippi Wind Pool Insurance Board.

For three of the past six years, he has won the top two commercial sales awards for Top Producer Round Table Members in the Gulf Coast Association of Realtors Awards Program. In 2014 he served as national Chairman of the Fair Housing Committee of the Association of Real Estate License Law Officials. He is a past Chairman of the USM Business Advisory Council and in 2006 he was inducted into the USM Alumni Hall of Fame.

The series, which began in  November with Entrepreneur Tom McDonnell and in February with Lindsey Inman from Island View Casino in February, has events planned on the Gulf Park Campus on Tuesday, March 29 with “Executives On: The Media,” from Noon – 1:15 p.m. in the Fleming Education Center. Roland Weeks, John McFarland, and Brad Kessie will serve as guest speakers.

The series concludes on Tuesday, April 19 with “Executive On: Entrepreneurship,” from Noon – 1:15 p.m. in the Hardy Hall, University Club. Dave Dennis and Frank Wilem will serve as guest speakers.

The series is sponsored in Hattiesburg by the Comcast Foundation and on the Gulf Park Campus with support from Gulf Coast businessman Joseph F. Boardman.
