The University of Southern Mississippi Department of Dance’s Dance Student Showcase will be presented Sunday, May 4 at 2 p.m. in Studio 115 of the Theatre and Dance Building. The event is supported by two student groups, the USM National Dance Education Organization (NDEO) Student Chapter and Chi Tau Epsilon.

Faculty advisors Kelly Ferris Lester and Shellie Nielsen oversee the student members of the USM NDEO student chapter and Chi Tau Epsilon. Faculty member Julie White oversees the Repertory Dance Company 2.

“The student officers of these two organizations collaborated throughout the semester to fully realize this concert. It is one of our most popular concerts each semester because it features many dancers and choreographers, as well as a variety of dance genres,” said Lester.

The showcase features choreography and performances by members of the two student groups and ranges in style from modern to ballet to hip-hop. The specific works included in the showcase were also recently featured in an assembly tour to local schools.

In addition, this concert features the Repertory Dance Company 2, primarily comprised of freshmen and sophomores in choreography by senior dance majors. Other choreographic works include class and individual projects.
