Eagle Dining at Southern Miss Introduces Just Like Home Recipe Contest

Main Content

Eagle Dining strives to give The University of Southern Mississippi a taste of home with the launch of the “Just Like Home Recipe Contest” for the 2014-2015 academic year.

The contest invites all students, faculty and staff to pick his or her favorite recipe from home and submit it to Eagle Dining. The top five finalists will be featured in a cookbook at the end of the Spring 2015 semester. Entrants will also have an opportunity to have recipe submissions prepared and served in The Fresh Food Company on the last Friday of each month.

Southern Miss President Rodney D. Bennett initially shared the desire to create a sense of community and home on campus.  Executive Chef Gene Rapone, who has worked at other universities in the past and has implemented similar programs at those locations, helped Eagle Dining bring this initiative to life.

“Giving our campus the chance to enjoy tastes from home while away from home allows us to express our care and commitment to our students, faculty and staff,” Executive Chef Gene Rapone said.

Recipes will be judged by a combined-committee of Dining Services, university staff and students. Taste, originality, ease of preparation, cost per serving and appearance will all be considered in the selection of the winners. Winning recipes may be from any meal category including, but not limited to breakfast, lunch, dinner, appetizers or dessert.

Submissions should include:

  • Recipe name
  • Ingredients list with measurements
  • Instructions for preparation
  • Entrant’s name, phone number and email address

Submissions can be accepted one of three ways:
