Main Content

The University of Southern Mississippi Institute for Disability Studies will sponsor a free, one-day homebuyer education workshop Wednesday, Sept. 19, for any residents in Jones and surrounding counties interested in buying a home.

The workshop will be held from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Laurel Housing Authority at 50 Brown Circle in Laurel. The City of Laurel Housing Authority and BancorpSouth are co-sponsors of the workshop.

The Institute for Disability Studies (IDS) empowers people with and without disabilities to reach their individual dreams of owning and maintaining their own homes. Since 1997, IDS has assisted more than 700 families in 66 Mississippi counties in becoming homeowners.

Homebuyer education workshops focus on assisting potential homebuyers by creating a support system that analyzes their housing needs and financial capacity and prepares them for homeownership.

For more information or to pre-register for the free homebuyer education seminar, call Heather Steele at the Institute for Disability Studies at 601.266.4097 by Sept. 14.
