Main Content

The University of Southern Mississippi Institute for Disability Studies currently has grant funds available statewide for people with disabilities and their families interested in becoming homeowners. A community grant workshop will be held Monday, Nov. 20, from 2:30 to 4:30 at the Mississippi Library Commission at 3881 Eastwood Drive in Jackson.

The workshop will explain requirement for obtaining up to $22,000 in down payment grant assistance for families of individuals with disabilities.

“The Mississippi Home Corporation has awarded $900,000 to the Mississippi Home of Your Own (HOYO) program to be used across the next two years, so funds are available NOW across the state, including all areas Jackson and surrounding cities for eligible families,” said Cassie Hicks, IDS director of housing. “This upcoming free community workshop in Jackson will provide consumers and housing providers an overview of the HOYO program and program requirements for eligibility.”

The Institute for Disability Studies, Mississippi’s University Center for Excellence in Developmental Disabilities (UCEDD), has been headquartered at The University of Southern Mississippi for more than 40 years.
