Students and alumni of The University of Southern Mississippi are invited to attend “Careers on the Coast,” a networking and job fair slated for Tuesday, March 7 at the University’s Gulf Park campus in Long Beach.
Hosted by Career Services, “Careers on the Coast” provides current and past students the opportunity to network with more than 45 professionals and prospective employers from industries representative of the University’s six colleges: College of Arts and Letters, College of Business, College of Education and Psychology, College of Health, College of Nursing, and College of Science and Technology.
Employers will be on hand to discuss a variety of full-time, part-time and internship opportunities available to students. There will also be opportunities for students to participate in volunteer or community service with select companies. This event will be held from 4:30 – 7 p.m. on the third floor of the Gulf Coast Library on the Gulf Park campus.
“All employers at the fair will be there with the purpose of sharing jobs and internships, but they will also be helping students engage in conversations and assist them in developing their sense of self as related to their professional life,” said Jona Burton, assistant director of career services on the Gulf Park campus.
During the job fair, students will gain practice dressing in business attire and giving their “60-second elevator pitch” while speaking with employers. According to Burton, these introductions will help students establish initial relationships with potential employers and help them navigate a roomful of professionals, which are important items to practice for the interview process.
The first 50 students to attend will receive a complimentary gift. Business attire is required. For more information about “Careers on the Coast,” contact Jona Burton, assistant director of career services, at 228.214.3330 or email firstname.lastname@example.org.
