Three University of Southern Mississippi students from the Madison County area have been selected as members of Southern Style for 2011.

The students are as follows:

  • Lora Claire Jones, a junior speech-pathology major, is the daughter of Michael and Shelley Jones. She serves as vice president of chapter development for Delta Delta Delta sorority and a member of Eagle Ambassadors and Alpha Lambda Delta Honor Society.
  • Paige Leblanc, a junior communication studies major, is the daughter of David and Cindy Leblanc. She serves as chapter president for Delta Gamma sorority, a member of the recruiting team for Eagle Connection, and a member of Honors College and the Student Government Association Cabinet.

  • Taylor Welborn, a sophomore biological science major, is the son of Ray Welborn of Madison and Donna Welborn of Ridgeland.

Southern Style is a highly selective group of student leaders who serve as official hosts and hostesses for Southern Miss. Students are chosen each year through a three-phase selection process. One of the main responsibilities of Southern Style members is to serve as orientation leaders during the summer.

Southern Style members have the opportunity to meet all new students and their parents through numerous orientation sessions. Other Southern Style responsibilities include assisting during Founders Day, Golden Eagle Welcome Week and all commencement ceremonies. Additionally, they attend recruitment functions and serve as support staff for the First Year Experience office.
