Marine Industries Science and Technology Cluster to Host Small Business Summit April 27

Main Content

The Marine Industries Science and Technology (MIST) Cluster program, managed by The University of Southern Mississippi, will host its second quarterly Small Business Summit on Monday, April 27, on the Southern Miss Gulf Park campus in Long Beach. The summit will be held from 7:45 a.m. until 4 p.m. in the Fleming Education Center.

The summit, held in conjunction with the U.S. Small Business Administration's Small Business Innovation Research (SBIR) Road Tour, will offer an opportunity for participants to discuss funding and technical areas of interest offered by SBIR and related Small Business Technology Transfer programs.

“This event is a rare opportunity to meet one-on-one with federal SBIR Program Managers visiting here in the region.” said Joe Graben, director of the Southern Miss Business and Innovation Assistance Center and MIST Cluster program manager. “These programs award over $2.5 billion annually in contracts and grants to small businesses to undertake research and technical innovation development projects meeting a federal agency's mission needs, which also have commercial potential.”

The SBIR Road Tour is co-hosted with the Enterprise for Innovative Geospatial Solutions' Geospatial Cluster with additional support provided by Innovate Mississippi. Presentations and discussions on opportunities for working with various divisions of the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration will also be a focus of the summit.
