Memorial Service for Xochitl Morales set for May 20 at Danforth Chapel

A memorial service for Xochitl Morales, a graduate student in The University of Southern Mississippi School of Music, will be held Friday, May 20 at 3 p.m. in Danforth Chapel on the Hattiesburg campus. Morales died Tuesday, May 17 at her home in Hattiesburg.

A native of Havana, Cuba, Morales was a cellist in the Southern Miss Symphony Orchestra. "Xochitl was a very fine cellist and a real musical asset to the university and the city of Hattiesburg," said Dr. Jay Dean, director of the orchestra. "She was always a very cheerful and caring person, and excited to be a part of the USM family."

Members of the Southern Miss community are invited to attend the service. "The College of Arts & Letters extends its condolences to Xochitl Morales’ family," said Dr. Maureen Ryan, dean of the college. "We are saddened about the loss of this talented musician and member of our college family."
