Jennifer Odell, a professional journalist who writes about the New Orleans jazz and brass band scenes and edits pop culture for MSN’s entertainment section, spoke with University of Southern Mississippi students about her experiences with the music and entertainment industries April 8 on the Hattiesburg campus. She was a guest of the university’s School of Mass Communications and Journalism and its distinguished lecturer in music industry, Drew Young.
Odell holds a graduate degree in journalism from Columbia University. She spearheaded the creation of a local branch of the Jazz Journalists Association in New Orleans, where she coordinates events that include the presentation of the association’s annual Jazz Heroes Awards and monthly meetings. Her experience also includes nearly a decade managing the technical production needs of live concerts and tours, art exhibits, plays and cultural festivals.
