Science and Engineering Fair Set for Feb. 26 at Southern Miss

The Center for Science and Mathematics Education will partner with Mississippi State Science & Engineering Fairs (MSEF-Region I) to host a Science and Engineering Fair for middle and high school students in grades 7-12 on Friday, Feb. 26. This all-day affair will be located in the Thad Cochran Center at The University of Southern Mississippi.

Students from any middle/junior high or high school from the following counties may enter the competition: Adams, Amite, Clarke, Covington, Forrest, Franklin, Green, Jasper, Jefferson, Jefferson Davis, Jones, Lamar, Lawrence, Lincoln, Marion, Pearl River, Perry, Pike, Simpson, Smith, Walthall, Wayne, and Wilkinson.

Sherry Herron, Director of the Center for Science and Mathematics Education and President for MSEF, notes that volunteers are needed to help competitors set up their presentations. “We need help that morning from 8 a.m. – 10 a.m. and serve as floor monitors from 11 a.m. – 2 p.m,” she said. “Upper classmen, graduate students, and faculty members are needed as judges. Those willing to serve as judges are asked to visit www.msefregion1.com and click on the “volunteer tab.”

The registration deadline for all regions was February 12, however, students still may submit their science project abstract and pay a late registration fee of $20.68. The SEF also have t-shirts available for $15.
