Sofia Student Recognized at Southern Miss Graduate Symposium

Manuela Staneva of Sofia, Bulgaria, was recently recognized at the 2011 Graduate Student Research Symposium at The University of Southern Mississippi.

Staneva, who received her masters in public health, is the daughter of Stefan and Manuela Staneva of Sofia, Bulgaria.

Staneva’s work, “Which makes you Sicker, Communism or Capitalism? A Case Study of the Impact of the Post-Communist Transition on Public Health in Bulgaria”, was selected by the Graduate Senate and Dean of the College of Graduate Studies for the Yarbrough Award and the top paper in her department. Winners receive recognition and a monetary award.

The symposium took place on March 18, 2011 and provided graduate students an opportunity to present their research to faculty, staff, students and members of the broader university community. This symposium is designed to enhance the scholarly environment for graduate students and to highlight the quality, innovative, and diverse scholarship of Southern Miss graduate students.
