For the third consecutive year, The Children’s Center for Communication and Development at The University of Southern Mississippi captured the “Team Spirit Award” as part of the United Way of Southeast Mississippi’s Corporate Challenge.

For the third year in a row The Children’s Center for Communication and Development, in tandem with the Southern Miss Lady Eagles, competed in the United Way of Southeast Mississippi's Corporate Challenge.

This year's Corporate Challenge, a field day for grownups, boasted Hub City businesses and non-profits that competed in basketball, volleyball, standing broad jump, tug-of-war, relay, and the sensational egg-toss.  Team Children's Center's egg-toss duo, thanks to the Lady Eagles, competed against more than two dozen egg tossing pair and completed the winning toss from a distance of 60 yards.

“Being on the field with the Lady Eagles, area businesses and non-profits is more of a reunion than a competition," said Children's Center director Sarah Case-Price. "United Way of Southeast Mississippi has a knack for bringing people together for the common good of Forrest, Lamar and Perry Counties.

"Because of  The Children's Center's true team approach, on and off the Southern Miss campus, this event is a fun and natural way for us to kick off United Way's 2013 campaign, our new year school year, and the Lady Eagles' new season,"  Case-Price added.

The Children's Center's team was comprised of Center staff, spouses, parents and Lady Eagles.  Cheering on Team Children's Center were the Lady Eagles basketball squad, Head Coach Joy Lee-McNelis and her coaching and administrative staff, along with Children's Center families, donors, board members, and staff.

The Children’s Center, a United Way agency, is a clinical education program within the Department of Speech and Hearing Sciences.  For nearly 40 years The Children's Center has provided clinical education to university students and direct, early intervention services to children from birth through age five with complex disabilities.
