The University of Southern Mississippi Forensics Society will host a high school tournament for debate teams hoping to qualify for the Grand National Speech and Debate Tournament of the National Catholic Forensics League. The Biloxi Catholic Forensics League Tournament will be held Feb. 21-22 at Joseph Green Hall on the Hattiesburg campus. This event is free and open to the public.
On Feb. 21 events begin at 4 p.m., and on Feb. 22 events begin at 7 a.m., with an awards ceremony to be held at 6 p.m.
"We are excited to be partnering with local high school forensics teams to host this tournament. Our hope is to continue with community outreach and building relationships. The Hattiesburg area has many exceptional high school programs, and we want the students of those programs to consider competing for Southern Miss when they graduate," said Forensics Society Coach Frankie Glennis-Watts.
The tournament will host 10 to 12 high school debate teams from south Mississippi. Southern Miss Forensics Society students will take part in judging the debates, as well as planning and organizing the event.
Additional tournament judges are needed, as well as volunteers for set-up and cleanup of the event. If you are interested in volunteering your time to help with the tournament, or have any questions about the event, email Southern Miss Forensics Society Coach Frankie Glennis-Watts at firstname.lastname@example.org.
