The Department of English at The University of Southern Mississippi will participate in World Book Night April 23 from 2 p.m. to 6 p.m. at the U.S. Post Office on South 40th Avenue in Hattiesburg. During the event, faculty and students from the department will distribute free books to the public.
Last year, English professor Morgan Frank introduced Southern Miss to World Book Night for the first time. This year the department is continuing the event by giving away free copies of Zora and Me, Sunrise over Fallujah, This Boy’s Life, Bobcat and Stories and many other books.
Four faculty members and six graduate students will give away 200 books to members of the Hattiesburg community. Books to be distributed are appropriate for both adults and young adults, and include fiction, memoirs and humor.
“True to the World Book Night mission, we hope to help foster an event that creates opportunities for community members to read for the pleasure of reading,” said Department of English Assistant Professor Joyce Inman.
