The Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) and the Center for Community and Civic Engagement (CCCE) at The University of Southern Mississippi are sponsoring a variety of canned food collection drives Nov. 18 -23 as part of “Let’s SAAC Hunger” week.
The Conference USA initiative unites member institutions through conference-wide community outreach. SAAC and CCCE are inviting all student groups and alumni to participate. “Let’s SAAC Hunger” week will include activities and opportunities for members of the Southern Miss campus and Hattiesburg community to fight hunger in the area.
The organization benefiting from the canned food drives will be the Edwards Street Fellowship Center in Hattiesburg. The winning C-USA institution will be determined by the weight of the canned goods donated, and recognized in the spring by conference officials. Southern Miss has consistently been at the top of the conference in this initiative.
The schedule of events for “Let’s SAAC Hunger” week includes the following:
Monday - Friday, Nov. 18-22: Faculty, staff and students are encouraged to bring canned goods during regular business hours to the Center for Community and Civic Engagement, located in The Hub, room 104.
Tuesday, November 19: Southern Miss Athletics will offer all fans who donate two canned food items free admission to the Women’s Basketball game against Arkansas Little Rock. The game is scheduled for a 7:00pm tipoff and collections will be accepted at the North Entrance of Reed Green Coliseum.
