The University of Southern Mississippi will celebrate its annual Welcome Week event Aug. 29 to Sept. 2, to welcome new incoming freshmen and transfer students to the University’s Gulf Park campus in Long Beach.

Hosted by the Division of Student Affairs, Welcome Week, “Your Road to Success,” offers a number of events and programming that highlight the wide array of resources available on campus. These activities will help students identify campus resources, connect them with student organizations, and provide them with a chance to engage in Southern Miss traditions, which all serve to support their adjustment to campus life.

According to Jona Burton, coordinator of Student Life and Career Services, students benefit from these events by having numerous opportunities to engage with many groups on campus, including members of the administration, all six of the colleges on campus, various departments and resources and other students.

“Our desired outcome for the event is to provide a welcoming atmosphere of engagement for all members of the campus, specifically students, both new and those returning to campus,” said Burton. “We aim to provide students with the access they need to resources and services on campus so that they can be successful in their academic endeavors while developing their professional skills in order to gain employment in their respective fields post-graduation.”
