University of Southern Mississippi operations on the Hattiesburg campus will close at 12:30 p.m. today (Tuesday, April 29) as a result of anticipated severe weather conditions in the Pine Belt this afternoon. Operations at the Southern Miss Gulf Park campus and additional locations will continue as regularly scheduled.
University officials will continue to monitor weather activity, and will activate the Eagle Alert communication system should an emergency weather situation arise this afternoon or evening. The University's Hattiesburg campus is scheduled to re-open for normal business hours on Wednesday morning.
The Southern Miss community is also advised of the following:
• Students living on the Hattiesburg campus are advised to use extreme caution if traveling by foot on campus and be aware of flood-prone areas on campus.
• Food services will be available for students living on campus at the Fresh Food Company.
• The University Police Department will be open. Should non-emergency assistance be required, please call 601.266.4986. In an emergency, call 9-1-1.
• Non-essential employees are advised to refrain from coming to campus while the University is closed.
