More than 100 students in grades 9-12 from high schools in central and south Mississippi will be on the University of Southern Mississippi Hattiesburg campus Wednesday to participate in the American Mathematics Competition. It will be held from 9 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. in the R.C. Cook University Union.
This event includes mathematics competition in which students answer a set of questions based on high school mathematics curriculum. Following a lunch break, students will take part in a discussion with the competition manager about possible solutions to the questions, and then awards for first, second and third place winners will be presented
The goal of the event is to offer participating students a fun and intellectually rewarding activity by experiencing an alternative learning experience that helps strengthen their mathematics capabilities. It is supported by the Southern Miss Office of the President, the Department of Mathematics, the College of Science and Technology and the Mathematical Association of America.
