The oil and gas industry will be the focal point of Spring Lecture Series presented at The University of Southern Mississippi on Feb. 21, Feb. 28 and March 7 on the Hattiesburg campus.
The lecture series will be held at the Thad Cochran Center Ballroom, beginning at 11:45 a.m. with a complimentary lunch. The lecture presentation will follow at 12:30 p.m. The series concludes with a question-and-answer session with the audience from 1-1:15 p.m.
The lecture series is hosted by the Trent Lott National Center for Economic Development and Entrepreneurship, the College of Science and Technology, the College of Business, and a grant from the Comcast Foundation.
Shannon Campbell, director of the Trent Lott Center, points out that the purpose of the series is to provide entrepreneurs, students, faculty and local citizens the latest information regarding Mississippi’s energy sector.
“The oil and gas industry has begun using a new method of extracting oil and natural gas known as hydraulic fracturing or ‘fracking,’ said Campbell. “We want to expand awareness about opportunities and challenges that lie ahead for our state and our citizens in this sector of our economy.”
