The University of Southern Mississippi and Blackboard are hosting a symposium that will be an e-learning conference on Sept. 27-28 in the Thad Cochran Center on the Hattiesburg Campus.

The complimentary conference will bring together educators from across the southeast who are interested in innovative teaching strategies. Blackboard has more than 150 partners who meet the needs of faculty, staff and students in the university environment.

“This event is such a great opportunity to share the latest innovations in higher education, tackle our newest challenges together and plan for continued future success,” said Brett Perlman, senior account executive for Blackboard. “It is a must-attend event for me and Blackboard values the relationship we share.”

Breakout sessions at the symposium will feature Blackboard partners, which will provide the opportunity to create integrated solutions for inside and outside of the classroom.

“This symposium will provide faculty with the opportunity to learn innovative approaches to teaching through the presentations given by Blackboard Partnerships,” said Southern Miss Provost Denis Wiesenburg. “We welcome faculty from other institutions to the Southern Miss campus and hope they gain valuable information that can be incorporated into their individual teaching styles."

David R. Davies, dean of Southern Miss Honors College and professor of mass communication and journalism, will provide the morning keynote address on Sept. 27. Davies is working on his third book, an analysis of press coverage of race, for Northwestern University Press.

Terry Pollard will provide the morning keynote address on Sept. 28. Pollard is an assistant professor within the School of Health-Related Professions at the University of Mississippi Medical Center. As the Director for Instructional Development and Distance Learning, he maps curriculum activity and curriculum modifications to proven instructional technology tools and methods.
