The unique work of five internationally-known artists will be featured on the Hattiesburg campus of The University of Southern Mississippi as part of an outdoor sculpture exhibition that will run from September 2014 through February 2016.
The biennial exhibition will also include lectures from the featured artists as well as art walks for anyone wishing to learn more about the sculptures. Installation of the first sculpture, by artist Ray Katz, was completed on Monday, Aug. 25 behind the Liberal Arts Building.
Subsequent installations/lectures will be conducted as follows:
“We have an exciting selection of interesting sculptures of different materials and themes,” said Jennifer Torres, professor of art and design at Southern Miss. “The sculptures will be on campus for 18 months for the campus and community to enjoy. This will be a great opportunity for folks to meet and talk to the actual artists and experience a unique arts engagement opportunity."
The project is funded by the Southern Miss College of Arts & Letters and Partners for the Arts. For more information about the exhibition, contact Torres at 601.266.6032.
