Main Content

Dr. Max Grivno, assistant professor of history at The University of Southern Mississippi, will present a public lecture on the American Revolution and the Deep South at 6:30 p.m. on Aug. 17, 2011 at the Hattiesburg Public Library.

The lecture focuses on how the American Revolution unfolded in the Deep South and what the war meant for the future of the fledgling republic, for the European empires that contended for dominance in the region, and for the region’s native nations.

Along the way, it covers the prominent characters of the struggle, including Natchez merchant-turned-soldier James William, Spanish governor Bernardo de Galvez, and the Choctaw chief Franchimastabé.
