Among highlights of the week’s activities include a Friday, Oct. 19 pep rally during “Live at Five” at downtown Hattiesburg’s Town Square Park, and induction of the newest members of the Southern Miss Alumni Association’s Hall of Fame at the Thad Cochran Center beginning at 6:30 p.m.; and prior to the game on Saturday, Oct. 20, beginning at 11 a.m., the homecoming parade will roll east from Midtown Shopping Center to the main entrance of the Hattiesburg campus, followed by the Alumni Association Awards Luncheon at noon that will feature recognition of alums and other USM supporters for their outstanding service to the university.

The culmination of the week will be the traditional homecoming football game Saturday, Oct. 20, pitting the Golden Eagles gridiron squad against its Conference USA West Division foe, the Roadrunners of the University of Texas at San Antonio. Kickoff is set for 6 p.m. Halftime will feature the introduction of the homecoming court and crowning of its queen.

At the Gulf Park Campus in Long Beach, events include a reception for the Gulf Park Campus homecoming representative Wednesday, Oct. 17 from 12:30 – 2 p.m. in the Hardy Hall Ballroom.; and on Thursday, Oct. 18, a pep rally will be held at the Chimney Pavilion from 11 a.m. – 1 p.m. (rain site for this event will be the Hardy Hall Ballroom).

Student activities during the week include homecoming banner displays, community service opportunities and the popular “Fountain Sit” at Shoemaker Square on the Hattiesburg campus, among others.

“The Student Government Association (SGA) is ecstatic for USM's 2018 Homecoming celebration,” said SGA President McKenna Stone. “The week leading up to the homecoming football game is filled with fun programming and some healthy student competition. Students and community members will have opportunities to build relationships, serve the community, showcase student talent, learn Southern Miss history, and participate in time-honored USM traditions.

“As this year's homecoming theme is ‘Home Sweet Southern Miss,’ we’re also excited to see our alumni return home, and our students and community members celebrate our Golden Eagle nest.”
