The University of Southern Mississippi College of Arts and Letters and the Center for Undergraduate Research (CUR) will co-host the 2014 Undergraduate Symposium on Research and Creative Activity. The symposium will be held April 11 from 4 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. in the Theatre and Dance Building and on April 12 from 8 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. in the Liberal Arts Building on the Southern Miss Hattiesburg Campus.
The symposium will begin with a plenary lecture, dance performance and reception Friday evening, followed by paper and poster presentations, lunch and an awards ceremony Saturday. All events are free to registered guests.
Monetary prizes will be given to first and second place winners in 16 competition categories. This year, for the first time, students will also have the option of displaying their work in a poster and competing for prizes for best poster. A panel of judges will evaluate students and select winners on the day of the symposium.
All events are co-sponsored by the College of Business, the College of Education and Psychology, the College of Health, the Honors College, the College of Nursing and the College of Science and Technology.
“We are all excited to showcase the wide range of outstanding work being done by our undergraduate students from across the curriculum,” said Dr. Amy Chasteen Miller, Associate Dean for Academic Affairs in the College of Arts & Letters and chair of this year’s symposium. Miller hopes that “many members of the university community will come out to celebrate our students” and take part in the weekend’s events.
