USM Business Grads Record Top Scores on CPA Exam

University of Southern Mississippi alums Bradley Floore and Stephen Broome received the Gold and Silver honors respectively at the annual convention of the Mississippi Society of Certified Public Accountants (MSCPA) last month. 

Floore, who graduated in 2016 with a double major in finance and accounting was awarded the 2016 Fred T. Neely Gold Medal. Stephen Broome, who earned his undergraduate degree in accounting in 2014 and MPA in 2015, received the 2016 T.E. Lott Silver Medal.

The Fred T. Neely Gold Medal is presented to the candidate who achieved the highest scores on the CPA exam of candidates who completed all four parts of the exam during the 2016 calendar year. Broome received the T.E. Lott Silver Medal Award for receiving the second highest total score on the Certified Public Accountants’ (CPA) exam among Mississippi candidates who passed in 2016.

“The faculty and staff of the School of Accountancy offer our congratulations to both Bradley and Stephen. As they progressed through our degree programs we had high hopes that they would achieve recognition for their outstanding abilities. We look forward to their successful progress in the accounting profession,” said Dr. Gwen Pate, chair of the USM School of Accountancy.”

Floore, a native of Gautier, Miss., is currently working as an Investment and Credit Analyst for the Office of the State Treasurer of Georgia.

“I am a proud alumnus of USM's College of Business. I couldn't have made it so far today without the support and guidance of so many professors and mentors in the College of Business,” said Floore. “From leadership opportunities to financial aid opportunities to even studying abroad, I owe so much to this college and I like to think that by continuing to shine in my professional career and by earning the 2016 Gold Medal award from the MSCPA, I am ensuring a good return on investment to all those that invested in me.”

Broome, a Jackson, Miss., native, currently works as an accountant for Robert Donnell CPA in Hattiesburg, and as an auctioneer for several dealers-only automobile auctions. “The years I spent at the University of Southern Mississippi are very special to me. I feel that the College of Business has superbly prepared me for a long career as a CPA,” said Broome. “I am very grateful to each of the faculty members in the accounting curriculum, as they graciously offered me both assistance and encouragement throughout my undergraduate and graduate studies.”

The University of Southern Mississippi School of Accountancy is accredited by the Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business (AACSB) at both the graduate and undergraduate level making it one of the top Accounting schools in the country.  For the fourth year in a row, the Master degree in Professional Accountancy graduates who are seeking employment, have a 100 percent job placement in their field.
