USM First to Deploy AI-Enabled Data Tool,, in College of Business and Economic Development

The University of Southern Mississippi has become the first institution of higher education to deploy the advanced AI-enabled economic data analytics platform, within its curriculum in the College of Business and Economic Development.

Both graduate and undergraduate students will have access to the platform that mines and curates data collected from millions of business establishments and uses trained algorithms to forecast growth.

“Our College of Business and Economic Development is committed to deploying tools and resources that will best prepare our students to become leaders in their chosen fields,” said Dr. Faye Gilbert, Dean of the College of Business and Economic Development. “Now, more than ever, Business and economic development leaders need to make decisions based on sound data and progressive analytics. We believe that will play a leading role in helping us prepare our students in this regard. 

“The ability to harness and interpret the ever-increasing amount of data available to decision makers has become an increasingly important differentiator in the business world,” said Steven Jast, President of  “We’re thrilled that the University of Southern Mississippi will be using our tool to help equip students and prepare them for a rapidly evolving business environment.”

Named for “gazelles”; a term used to denote rapidly growing companies, the platform was originally created for economic development professionals whose role it is to identify and attract growing companies that bring jobs and investment to communities. Gazelle. ai will ultimately be integrated into courses focusing on Economic Development, Entrepreneurship, Marketing, Marketing Research and Management.

Dr. Chad Miller, Professor of Economic Development, added “In keeping with our mandate to innovate and encourage fresh thinking, we are looking forward to becoming the first College to use I’m very confident that our students and faculty will come to find the platform to be an indispensable resource.” was designed to help economic developers, international trade agencies, investors, and dealmakers generate investment leads, engage effectively those leads, and ultimately attract investment.  Developed by a leading team of economists, mathematicians, and developers, the tool not only mines vast amounts of company and industry data but also predicts companies that are poised for growth.  Find out more:
