Presentation of exciting new research and laboratory tours are just part of the festivities planned for the first annual Polymer Science and Engineering Conference set for Friday, March 23 at The University of Southern Mississippi.

The conference will showcase new faculty, emerging research, newly acquired instrumentation, updated laboratories, and student achievement. Networking sessions are scheduled, along with research presentations, breakout sessions, and student interview opportunities, designed to promote interaction among participants.

“Polymers are in their 48th year at Southern Miss. We are delighted to unveil our recently acquired facilities as part of our new School of Polymer Science and Engineering,” said School Director Dr. Jeff Wiggins.”

Along with the opportunity for networking, participants will receive a book of abstracts and student resumés.

“This is a great opportunity for our industry partners and alumni to get to know the new faculty and interact with students. New research directions in polymer science and engineering also will be highlighted,” said Dr. Sarah Morgan, professor and associate director, School of Polymer Science and Engineering.

Presentations by new faculty members include the following:

  • Dr. Jason Azoulay, “Narrow bandgap conjugated polymers for emergent electronic technologies”
  • Dr. Xiaodan Gu, “Roll to roll printing of stretchable electronics”
  • Dr. Yoan Simon, “(Out)smart polymer chemistry”
  • Dr. Gopinath Subramanian, “Multi scale modeling of rubbery elastomers”
