The University of Southern Mississippi’s online master’s degree in Sport Management has been ranked among the nation’s best by two online college resource guides. TheBestSchools.org lists the USM program at No. 16 in its 2018 rankings, while BestColleges.com positions the USM program at No. 23.

“We are very proud to be acknowledged for the second year in a row as one of the best online Sport Management degrees in the country,” said Dr. Stacey Hall, associate dean of USM’s College of Business. “This recognition is a testament to our hard-working faculty that ensures our students gain the theoretical knowledge as well as the applied learning experiences needed to be successful in their chosen career field. Support from the university administration and College of the Business has been instrumental in elevating our program to a national level.”

The USM program develops critical thinking and problem solving skills, exposing students to research and best practices in the sport industry. Graduates can work as talent scouts, operations managers, and franchise marketing specialists.

Distance learners may earn their master’s entirely online through asynchronous courses delivered by Canvas or through a hybrid experience that mixes in traditional classes on the Hattiesburg campus. Most students finish the program in fewer than two years.

The 33-credit degree plan consists of core classes, electives, and a practicum experience. Required coursework includes financial management, applied research methods, and socio-ethical issues in sport. USM provides internship placement assistance with its institutional partners. Students may also fulfill the practicum requirement with their current employer or at an organization in their community.
