Main Content

Two University of Southern Mississippi students from Vicksburg have been selected as members of Southern Style for 2011.

The students are as follows:

  • Cullen Leist, a sophomore accounting major, is the son of Jack Leist and the late Rebecca Shaw.
  • Jazmyne Butler, a sophomore broadcast journalism major, is the daughter of Elizabeth Grissom. She serves as public relations chair for Southern Miss Activities Council and is a member of the Student Government Association, Lambda Sigma Honor Society, Eagle Connection and the Honors College.

Southern Style is a highly selective group of student leaders who serve as official hosts and hostesses for Southern Miss. Students are chosen each year through a three-phase selection process. One of the main responsibilities of Southern Style members is to serve as orientation leaders during the summer.

Southern Style members have the opportunity to meet all new students and their parents through numerous orientation sessions. Other Southern Style responsibilities include assisting during Founders Day, Golden Eagle Welcome Week and all commencement ceremonies. Additionally, they attend recruitment functions and serve as support staff for the First Year Experience office.
