A favorite South Mississippi music tradition returns this weekend when The University of Southern Mississippi’s campus radio station, WUSM-FM (88.5 fm), presents Roots Reunion Weekend Oct. 12-13. Admission is free to the program’s events.
The weekend kicks off Friday, Oct. 12 at 7 p.m. at the Saenger Theatre in historic downtown Hattiesburg with a local roots music lineup that includes Magnolia Junction; Wes Lee; Cross Ties; Scott Chism and the Better Half; and Ben Wiley Payton.
The weekend continues on Saturday Oct. 13 at Town Square Park in the Hattiesburg Historic District, with music from 12 - 4 p.m. leading up to the downtown art walk. The Music Maker Relief Foundation will present nationally known blues artists Ben Wiley Payton, L. C. Ulmer, and Ironing Board Sam. Drew Young and his band will also perform. Food and beverages will be available.
