It’s been a frenzied pace since Saturday for the Pride of Mississippi Marching Band and The University of Southern Mississippi Dixie Darlings in their efforts to get to New York City for this year’s Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade.

More than 650 students representing high schools from the southern region of the state will gather on The University of Southern Mississippi campus Dec. 3-4 to perform a variety of renowned plays as part of the Mississippi High School Drama Festival.

More than 3.5 million television viewers worldwide will watch The University of Southern Mississippi Pride of Mississippi Marching Band and Dixie Darlings make debut appearances in New York City at the 84th Annual Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade.

The University of Southern Mississippi will close its 2010 Centennial Celebration with performances by the Southern Miss Gulf Coast Civic Chorale. Having performed earlier in the year to welcome the centennial, the chorale will now commemorate the special occasion with “Holiday Celebration – A Centennial Celebration.”

Funk, Afro-Latin and swing music will all be on the menu for the Jazz Lab Band I concert at 7:30 p.m. Fri., Nov. 19 on The University of Southern Mississippi Hattiesburg campus.

A stunning new opera production about love and romance comes to The University of Southern Mississippi Mannoni Performing Arts Center Nov. 9 and 11.

The four-act Italian tragedy-drama, “La Bohéme” will take to the stage for two performances only beginning at 7:30 p.m. each evening.

University of Southern Mississippi Air Force ROTC cadets will honor Hattiesburg area veterans in their annual 24-hour Veterans Vigil at the Hattiesburg Veterans Memorial Park from 10 a.m. Nov. 10 through 10 a.m. Nov. 11.

Musical tastes to whet any appetite will be on tap Saturday, Nov. 6 at Mugshots restaurant in Hattiesburg when the second annual “Dancing for DuBard” event gets underway.

Teachers, parents, grandparents, youth and other fans of children’s literature can get a sneak peek at the latest in children’s literature Nov. 7-8 when The University of Southern Mississippi’s de Grummond Children’s Literature Collection hosts its annual Holiday Book Preview.

Talented vocalists and conductors will return to The University of Southern Mississippi for the first Choral Alumni Concert at 3:30 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 6 in Hattiesburg, Miss.

A 250-plus mass choir will sing a variety of music chosen and rehearsed by six different conductors at Main Street Baptist Church.

Internationally recognized composer Judith Lang Zaimont will perform her newly commissioned “Concerto for Piano and Wind Orchestra” with The University of Southern Mississippi Wind Ensemble at 7:30 p.m., Thurs., Nov. 4 in Bennett Auditorium.
